Alberta Lou Hudson
07/22/1926 - 12/07/2013
Alberta Lou (Rankin) Hudson of Brandon FL, formerly of Crawfordsville, went to meet the Lord early in the evening of 12/07/2013. She resided in Crawfordsville her entire life before moving to Florida to live with her daughter, Paula, due to health issues.
Alberta was born 07/22/1926 to George and Vincie Rankin. She married the love of her life, Kenneth Hudson on 12/17/1950. She graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1944 and Lakeview Hospital School of Nursing in 1947.
A very kind and compassionate caregiver, she worked for Drs. Burke and Baird, Culver Union Hospital, and finally as the Student Health Nurse at Wabash College for over 26 years. It was at the final position that she found her niche, serving as a substitute mother, grandmother, and nurse to many students. She also volunteered at the Christian Nursing Service, now known as the Mary Ludwig Free Clinic.
Alberta was also a great lover and follower of both Crawfordsville High School and Wabash College Athletics and could always be seen sitting in the bleachers during football and basketball season and her lawn chair at Crawfordsville baseball games. This love for athletics continued while in Florida as she attended several Tampa Bay Rays games and still followed CHS and Wabash athletics.
Survivors include a sister, Margaret Burton of Marlette, MI; Son Doug (Shannon) of Crawfordsville; Daughter Paula (Gene) of Brandon, FL; 6 grandchildren - Brooke and Brandon Hutchison, Cari Hudson, Tyler Hudson, Amanda Turpin, and John David Barclay as well as 6 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in Death by parents, her husband, and brother David.
A "Celebration of Life" is scheduled for 2 PM. Monday, Dec. 30, 2013, at the First Christian Church, 211 South Walnut, Crawfordsville, with the Rev. Keith Strain officiating. Powers-Priebe Funeral Home of Crawfordsville is in charge of the arrangements. The family chose cremation; therefore there will be no graveside rites. Friends may call from Noon-2 PM p.m. the day of the service, at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Crawfordsville High School Athletics or the Mary Ludwig Free Clinic
