Mr. Alfred Leon Deck, 91, Crawfordsville, passed away peacefully after a short battle with cancer, surrounded by his family, on Saturday, November 26th, in the Wellbrooke of Crawfordsville. He was born June 13th, 1925, in Montgomery County, the oldest of 10 children born to Marion and Hallie (Turner) Deck. He married Ethel Bernice McFadden in Crawfordsville on November 22nd, 1946. She preceded him in death in 2007.
Al was affectionately known for his towering stature, kind smile, big heart, and sense of humor. He retired after 42 years at R.R. Donnelley; was a member of the Crawfordsville First Baptist Church, where he had been a Deacon; member of the Berean Sunday School Class and the Keenagers. He attended New Market Schools; was a WW II "Battle of the Budge" U.S. Army Veteran; was a 66 year Mason, having been a Past Master of the Alamo Masonic Lodge and a Past Worthy Patron of the Alamo Order of the Eastern Star.
He is survived by his children: John Mike (Linda) Deck, Crawfordsville; Tom Deck, Asheboro, North Carolina; Connie Record, Crawfordsville; and Sandy (Meade) (Ron)Brook, Crawfordsville; Also surviving are siblings: Ed Deck, Washington State; Anna Thompson, Crawfordsville; Latricia Dowell, Crawfordsville; Madonna Frazier, Washington State; Bob Deck, Crawfordsville; Fred Deck, Crawfordsville; Jack Deck, Waynetown; grandchildren: Jennie Beach, Diana Flory, Adam Deck, Doug Record, Andy Record, Aaron Record, Amy Deck, and several great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sister: Joyce Day; an infant brother; son-in-law: Mike Meade; and daughter-in-law: Lois Deck.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 30th, at First Baptist Church, 1905 Lebanon Road, Crawfordsville, with Pastor Isaac Zull officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill North Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday, November 29th, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Masonic Services will be conducted Tuesday in the church at 8:00 PM. Military Rites will be conducted by the Crawfordsville VFW and American Legion Honor Guard and the U.S. Army prior to services on Wednesday. Powers-Priebe Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
