Averill Irene Harris

d. September 3, 2017

Averill Irene (Rogers) Harris was born on July 20, 1925 in Brookston, Indiana to Harper Rogers and Estelle (Klepinger) Rogers. She had an older sister, Ruth.

She was a bookkeeper and retired from Purdue University. She married Dallas Harris and they were happily married until his death in 1984. She is survived by two sons, Roger Howe and Ross Howe, four grandsons, one granddaughter and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a niece and nephew.

She lived to be 92 years old and was able to live independently and alertly until her death on September 3, 2017.

Everyone who knew Averill; knew she was a force to be reckoned with. She was intelligent, independent, dependable and a fine craftswoman.

She loved her Purdue sports teams and her rescued cat, Callie. She was thrilled to see the Cubs win the World Series at last and was surprisingly broadminded in her political and social outlook.

Most of all, she will be remembered for her beautiful handwork, especially quilts. Not only did she pass on heirloom quilts to each family member, but she put her skills to work for those in need. She made countless quilts for children in women's shelters--children who needed the warmth and beauty their very own quilts gave them.

Her cremains were buried next to her husband at a private service at Wolf Creek Cemetery. Sanders Funeral Care assisted the family.
