Barry R. Lighty

Barry R. Lighty, born July 31, 1948, at the age of 75, passed away at home in Crawfordsville with family by his side on March 3, 2024.  He was the son of Marion “Short” and Barbara (Linker) Lighty.  Barry married Brenda Williams on July 4, 1998 in Darlington.

He was the first graduating class of Fountain Central High School, Class of ‘66.  Barry proudly served in the United States Army from 1968-1971, stationed in Germany.  He worked for R.R. Donnelley for 45 years, retiring in 2012.  Barry was a member of the Eagles, American Legion Post 72, 500 Breakfast Club. Barry was a longtime yellow shirt and member of the Old Timers Club at Indianapolis Motor Speedway for 34 years and was known as the “Guardian of the Bricks.”

He had his love of racing, campfires and traveling, spending many years at Sugar Mill Lake with family and friends. Barry never met a stranger, and you would always find Barry with a smile on his face.

Barry is survived by his wife of 25 years, Brenda Lighty; sons, Rick Lighty, Matt (Cassi) Lighty and Josh Lighty, all of Crawfordsville; stepchildren, Jennifer Milling of New Jersey and Tony (Tracy) Hooley of Crawfordsville; grandchildren, Emilia, Collyn, Hope, Nevaeh, Luke, Alex, Adalyn, Bailey, Savannah and Livy.  He is also survived by his brother, Greg (Marlene) Lighty and brother-in-law, Darrel Dyson.

He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Denise Dyson.

Cremation was chosen with Sanders Priebe Funeral Care entrusted with care.  Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 from 4-7pm at Sanders Priebe Funeral Care, 315 S Washington Street in Crawfordsville.  The memorial service will be on Wednesday “Hump Day,” March 13, 2024 at 10am at the funeral home with military honors presented by the United States Army and the American Legion, Post 72.
