Mr. Basil Calvin Deck, 104, New Market, was called home by his Angel and the Lord at 12:27 AM Tuesday, June 24th, in the Mill Pond Health Campus, Greencastle, where he resided. He was born March 16, 1910, near Alvin, Illinois, to John and Anna Jeanetter (Logan) Deck. The youngest of nine children, they migrated to Montgomery County in 1913. He first married Beatryce Evelyn Keller in 1930. She preceded him in death. In 2001, Basil remarried at the age of 91 to Lois Leatherman. She also preceded him in death.

Basil was employed by Indiana Bell for 30 years as a Cable Splicer and Supervisor, retiring at he age of 60. After retiring he spent the next 10 years traveling with his wife, Beatryce, until her health began to fail. He was a 1929 graduate of Crawfordsville High School; was a 75 year member of the Montgomery Masonic Lodge #50; a 50 year member of the Scottish Rite, Valley of Indianapolis; a 50 year member of the Waveland and Alamo Order of the Eastern Star, having been the Worthy Patron numerous times at Waveland; was a member of the New Market Christian Church where he taught the "High Hopes Adult Sunday School Class". His hobbies were farming; making rag rugs; visiting with family and friends; and just sitting and enjoying the view from his home.

He is survived by his sons: Roger (Cristine) Deck, Coatesville, and Allen Deck, Indianapolis. Also surviving are grandchildren: Jeff (Lisa) Deck, Greensburg; Christian (Claire) Deck, Indianapolis; Daryl Deck, Phoenix, AZ; Anita Miller, Avon; step-grandson: Joshua Copper, Peoria, IL; great-grandchildren: Baron Deck and Kari Deck, both of Greensburg; J D Miller and Kaleigh Miller, both of Avon; step-son: Gary (Janet) Leatherman, Bellmore; 3 step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by his parents; a set of boys that were stillborn; sisters: Bertha Bollman, Verna Wier, Leona Caldwell, and Lenora Sims; brothers: Marion and Elmer Deck.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM Saturday, June 28th, in the New Market Christian Church, 300 S. Third St., with Rev. Dorman Winger officiating. Friends may call at the church on Friday, June 27th from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM, where Masonic Services will be held at 8:00 PM. Burial will be in the Oak Hill South Cemetery, Crawfordsville.
