Bernice E. (Runion) Springer, age 89, of Lafayette passed away in the early morning hours of Thursday, May, 24, 2018 at IU Arnett Hospital in Lafayette.
She was born in Boone County, Indiana on March 10, 1929, the fifth child of the late Charles E. & Retta M. (Albertson) Runion. On May 1, 1947 in Crawfordsville she married the love of her life of 54 years, John Lewis Springer, who preceded her in death on January 9, 2002. She was educated in the Jamestown Schools and began her career at R.R. Donnelley & Sons in Crawfordsville in 1946, taking off a few years after the birth of her son in 1953. She began her time at Donnelley’s as a mail clerk, worked as a switchboard operator, various positions in the bindery area and finished her 42-year career in 1994.
She was a member of the Donnelley Club and enjoyed reading, antiquing, shopping, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Gregory W. (Patricia) Springer of Lafayette; a daughter, Kelley (Jeffrey) Warbinton of Indianapolis; 3 grandchildren, Michael (Lindsey) Springer of Lafayette, Meredith (Tyler) Weir of Indianapolis, and Lauren Warbinton of Indianapolis; three great grandchildren, Addyson Springer, Grayson Springer, and Ryleigh Springer; and her dog, Beau.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Lewis Springer; three brothers, Roy, Raymond, and Herman “Joe” Runion; and two sisters, Catherine E. and Edna M. Runion.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 from 5:00pm – 8:00pm at Sanders Priebe Funeral Care, 315 S Washington St, in Crawfordsville. The funeral will be Thursday, May 31, 2018 at 11:00am at the funeral home with Celebrant Amanda Atkins officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill North Cemetery.
