Betty Jean (Lighty) Chezem, age 93 of Crawfordsville, passed away on Monday, May 3, 2021 at Ben Hur Nursing and Rehabilitation. She was born in Hillsboro on May 2, 1928 to the late Archie Estel & Virgie Lima (Stringfield) Lighty.

Betty graduated from Hillsboro High School and on December 30, 1967 she married Byron Franklin Chezem, who preceded her in death on December 10, 2019. Betty was a loving mother, devoted wife and homemaker. Betty was a cat lover, loved to talk and enjoyed flowers and bird watching. She collected owls, cookbooks, and was a great cook, which she passed that tradition to her daughter and granddaughters. She loved her family dearly and loved spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by a daughter, Franka (Ken) Welcher; a son, Troy Chezem; five grandchildren, Kylie Chezem, Kaycie Welcher, Stefani Welcher, Lorne Welcher, and Lyndsay (Joe) Oliver; four great-grandchildren, Maddox Burton, Carter Daley, Benjamin Long, Jackson Long, and Carlee Welcher.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank; three brothers, Estel Lighty, Marion Lighty, and Jim Lighty.

There will be a Graveside Service at Rose Hill Cemetery in Hillsboro on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at 11:00am with Pastor Dorman Winger officiating. Sanders Priebe Funeral Care entrusted with care. Share memories and condolences online at www.sandersfuneralcare.com
