Betty Jane White, 92, of Crawfordsville, went home to her Lord Jesus, on Monday, November 7th at Wellbrooke Health Center following a series of health challenges within the last week. Until that week, she remained a fiercely independent lady. She was born in Oakland, IL, February 11, 1924 to Orvin and Eva McQueen. She resided in Crawfordsville for 90 Years.
She was educated in the Montgomery County school systems attending John Beard, Wilson, New Market, and Crawfordsville High School.
In 1942 she married Albert R. (Bill) White, her one and only true love, who predeceased her in 1969.
During her long life she worshiped in several area churches. In her later years she returned to First Baptist where she had first accpeted Jesus as Lord as a young teen. She exemplified the importance of faith, family, caring, and exercising your right to vote.
She was a caregiver, helpmate, hard worker, wonderful and loving daughter, sister, sister-in-law, generous mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was an excellent baker, cook, and homemaker. She was employed at Woolworth's, J.C. Penney's, Cambridge Inn, and 3-D Department Store, enjoying work in retail and with people. She worked for forty years at election polling stations around Crawfordsville. In her retirement years, she was the caregiver for her mother and worked at Walmart doing demos of new products.
Survivors include daughters, Rita Arthur (Rob) of Crawfordsville, Becki Matlock (Merrill) of Indianapolis, four grandchildren of Indianapolis (Amber Smith, April (Jammie) Stanbary, Chris Schneider, and Mike (Betsy) Matlock), and six great grandchildren all of Indianapolis, (Meghan, Autumn, Ally, Jack, Ella, and Will). She is survived by a sister Kate Morrison (Jerry) of Ladoga, a brother Phil McQueen (Rita) of Frankfort, and many nieces and nephews and "greats." She will be greatly missed by all of her family and granddaughter's rescue dog, Akiko, who brought her much joy during her final year. She was privileged to receive weekly caregiving by her niece, Sherry Reynolds.
She was welcomed into heaven by her parents, husband, sister, infant granddaughter, brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws.
Public visitation will be Friday 12-2 at Powers & Priebe Funeral Home with a celebration of her life at 2, officiated by Mike Wren. Following internment at Oak Hill Cemetery on Grant Avenue, there will be a brief family and friends gathering at The Right Track Banquet Hall in Crawfordsville.
