Billy Valgene Dickson, age 92 of Crawfordsville passed away peacefully at Bickford Memory Care in Crawfordsville on Wednesday, February 6, 2019. He was born in Jamestown, Indiana on August 15, 1926 to the late David Franklin & Eliza Jane (Aker) Dickson.
Billy graduated from Jamestown High School in 1944 and proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII and was stationed in Japan. On April 15, 1945 he married Thelma Jean Baer, who preceded him in death on January 19, 2012. On September 25, 2013 he married Anna (Titus) Pennington, who survives.
Billy was retired from RR Donnelley where he was a typesetter for many years. After his retirement he drove the Veteran Van which took many veterans to their doctor appointments at the VA and one year was awarded the Driver of the Year. In April of 2018 he was very humbled that he got to attend the Veteran’s Honor Flight. He attended the Crawfordsville First United Methodist Church and was a member of the Masonic Lodge #50. He just recently received his 50-year Mason pin. He enjoyed doing woodworking in his shed and made many clocks and windchimes. He enjoyed archery, bowling, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Anna of Crawfordsville; two sons, Gary (Bonnie) Dickson of New Market and Robert “Bob” (Carol Sue) Dickson of Delaware, OH; a daughter, Sherry (Jerry) DeVries of Sherwood, AR; seven grandchildren, Jeff (Leesa) Harrison, Jason Harrison, Mike (Tiffany) Dickson, Heather (Steve) Jones, Bill Dickson, Paul DeVries, and Bryan DeVries; six great grandchildren, Parker, Nolan, Ethan, Logan, Gavin, and Zoe; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Thelma Dickson; two brothers, George & Willard Dickson; three sisters, Mary Katherine Spohr, Mildred Morgan, and Virginia Neher; and a granddaughter, Bree Ann Dickson.
Visitation will be at Sanders Priebe Funeral Care, 315 S Washington Street in Crawfordsville on Monday, February 11, 2018 from 11:00am till the time of the funeral service at 1:00pm with Pastor Brian Campbell officiating and military honors performed by the United States Army and Legion Post 72 Honor Guard.
