Mr. Billy Lloyd "Bill" Etter, 90, New Market, passed away Friday, April 18, at 3:55 AM in Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis. He was born November 6, 1923, in New Market to Lloyd Gordon and Mary Frances (Hoss) Etter. He married Raymonde Maltaire on November 21, 1945, in Etampehs, France, and they lived in Paris until his discharge from the Army. She survives in New Market.
Mr. Etter started his working career at Etter Tractor Sales in New Market, and later joined his Dad and brother, John, in the family car business as a 3rd generation Ford Dealer at Etter Ford in New Market and later Etter Ford in Crawfordsville, now owned by his nephew, Jeff Etter. He was a 1941 graduate of New Market High School; attended Wabash College before entering the U S Army and graduated from Wabash College in 1947 following his discharge from the service. In addition to his military service, he was a member of the St. Bernard's Catholic Church, where he served on its Finance Board; served on the New Market building corporation when the New Market Elementary School was built in 1965; was a member of the Southmont School Board when Southmont was built in 1971 and served as its Treasurer for 2 1/2 terms; and served on the New Market Bank and the Crawfordsville First National Bank Boards.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters: Gisele Lyons (fiance-Greg Chrisman), Indianapolis; and Claudette (Steve) Kirk, New Market. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, John; and his sister-in-law, Ardell Etter.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 22, at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, 1306 E. Main St., Crawfordsville, with Father Dennis Fakker officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday, from Noon until 2:00 PM. A Private Family committal service will be held in the Calvary Cemetery, with Military Rites being conducted by the American Legion and VFW Posts of Crawfordsville.
