Mr. Bobby Joe (B.J.) Phillips, 74, Crawfordsville, died Friday, July 17th, at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 2nd, 1941 in Charleston, West Virginia. He was the eldest son of Joseph W. and Dona L. (Pauley) Phillips.

B. J. retired as an Industrial Engineer from Alcoa C.S. I. in Crawfordsville. He was a member of the Whitesville Christian Church.

Bobby was one of the longest surviving Heart Transplant Recipients in Indiana. He received his heart on October 25th, 1994 at St. Vincents Heart Center in Indianapolis. The family wishes to extend an expression of our sincere gratitude to the entire Regional Medical Community for all that they have done to give Bobby the excellent quality of life that he enjoyed for the last 25 years.

B. J. was actively involved in various levels of motor sports throughout his adult life, most recently, "Tractor Pulling". He was an active member of the Tri- County Tractor Pullers, having won his class in the most recent competition at Columbus, Indiana. B. J. was a lover of cats and dogs and actively fed several neighborhood cats.

Survivors include: sisters: Nancy (Jim) Harvey, Santa Barbara, California; Pansy Hubbard, Grand Junction, Colorado; Gloria (Toby) Craft, Darlington; brothers: Thomas (Carolyn) Phillips, Dardanelle, Arkansas; Randy (Lisa) Phillips, Waynetown; Guy (Mary) Phillips, Covington; and "Simpson" and "Charlie" at home. Also surviving is "The Love of His Life", Judith Currens of Darlington. He was preceded in death by both parents and his sister: Bonnie J. Goff.

Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 PM Wednesday, July 22nd, at Powers-Priebe Funeral Home, with Rev. Mike Whitaker officiating. Burial will follow in the Indian Creek Hill Cemetery, New Market. Friends may call at he funeral home on Wednesday from Noon until the service time.
