Burl Grayson

Burl Estill Grayson, age 84 of Crawfordsville, passed away on Friday, August 30, 2024 at Fairway Village in Indianapolis. He was born in Bedford, Indiana on June 13, 1940 to the late Cecil Patrick and Alma May (Hawkins) Grayson.

Burl attended Crawfordsville Schools and proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1958-1966. He worked as a carpenter most of his life and managed the masonic cemeteries for several years. He was a licensed commercial pilot, and flying was his favorite hobby. He was a member of St Bernards Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, the American Legion Post 72, Masonic Lodge #50, which he was a Past Master for 3 years, the Scottish Rite and was a 33rd degree mason.

He married the love of his life, Carolyn Sue Phillips, on August 25, 1959, who survives. He was the youngest of 12 children and is survived by one sister, Marion Davis of Frankfort; two sisters-in-law, Alice Grayson and Donna Phillips; a son, Kirk Allen Grayson of Crawfordsville; three grandchildren, Eve (Eric) Hungerford of Crawfordsville, Levi Kirk (Julie) Grayson of Hillsboro, and Autumn Rose (Brandon Alonzo) Grayson of Utah; five great-grandchildren; three brothers-in-law, Roger (Alice) Phillips, Danny Phillips, and Dennis (Cathy) Phillips; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Bert, Roy, John, James, and Ed Grayson; five sisters, Betty Thompson, Connie Price, Ruth Montgomery, Goldy Hensel and Edna Stewart; and a brother-in-law, Rex Phillips.

Visitation will be at Sanders Funeral Care Crawfordsville, 315 S. Washington St., on Friday, September 6, 2024 from 1:00 pm till the time of the funeral service at 3:00 pm. Entombment will follow at Oak Hill Mausoleum.
