Mr. Cecil H. Dunlap, age 81, formerly of the Alamo area, passed away at 11:40 PM Wednesday January 29, 2014 at Whitlock House Assisted Living in Crawfordsville, In.
Cecil was born August 14, 1932 in Champaign County Illinois, the son of John W. and Bessie G (Blevins) Dunlap. After graduating from Mahomet High School he attended Purdue University for two years. Cecil then served in the US Army from 1954- 1956. On March 3, 1956 he married Phyllis Ann Weir at Alamo Christian Church and they set up house and farmed in that area the rest of their lives. Phyllis passed away on May 5, 1991. Cecil then married Doris Stewart on May 27, 2000 and she passed away two years later.
During his retirement Cecil spent time in Sun City Center, Fla. and was a member of the Sun City Center Baptist Church. His other memberships included Alamo Masonic Lodge #144 of which he was a Past Master, Alamo Order of Eastern Star #498, Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, Murat Shrine of Indianapolis, Elks Lodge of Crawfordsville, and the American Legion.
Cecil is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Janet (Tony) Johnson of Crawfordsville; brother Paul (Viola) Dunlap of Mahomet, Ill; two grandchildren and on great granddaughter.
Along with his wives, he was predeceased by brother Burl Dunlap and sister Pauline Elkins.
Funeral Services for Cecil Dunlap will be held at 11:00am Monday February 3, 2014 at Shoemaker Funeral Home, Waynetown with Rev.
Dorman Winger officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Crawfordsville American Legion and VFW. Burial will be in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. The family will receive guests from 2-5 PM Sunday Feb. 2, 2014 at the funeral home with masonic services conducted at 5 pm by the Alamo Masonic Lodge.
