Mr. Charles E. Davis, 78, Crawfordsville, went to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, after a lengthy illness on Thursday, November 17, at 12:40 PM at the Ben Hur Nursing Home. He was born March 16, 1933, in Mooresville, Indiana, to Ernest and Addie (Casteel) Davis. He married Mary Ann Newell-French November 2, 1969 in Lafayette. She survives.
Mr. Davis had been a Bindery Supervisor for RR Donnelley & Sons for 44 years, retiring in 1997. He was a 1952 graduate of North Salem High School and a U S Army Veteran during the Korean War Conflict serving 2 years in Germany. He was a member of the New Hope Christian Church, where he was a member of the choir, a Sunday School Teacher, an Elder, and participated in a church mission trip in the New England States. Other memberships and activities include: American Legion Post #72, Crawfordsville; Donnelley Retirement Club; Montgomery County Men's Fellowship: shuttle driver at the Indiana State Fair for 14 years; Sunshine Van Driver for 3 years; Gatekeeper at Town & Country Home Center for 3 years; Parking Pass Supervisor at the Mansfield Covered Bridge Festival for 12 years; was employed by the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for 2 years; was a Bible scholar; Took Communion to area Nursing Homes, where he spent prayer time with the residents; and enjoyed spending winters for the last 5 years in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, where he also taught Bible Study.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: his twin daughters; Michele (John) Turcich, Chicago and Melissa (Richard) Mason, Crawfordsville; his daughters: Kim (Tom) Smith and Becky (Rick) Haas, both of Crawfordsville; and his son: Rick (Charli) French, Avon. Also surviving is his brother: Larry (Sharon) Davis, Indianapolis; his sisters: Betty Wilson, Florida and Kathy Walton, Arizona; 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and a son, Ron and daughters, Karen, Cheryl, and Beverly, from a previous marriage.
Cremation was selected with a time to greet the family on Monday, November 21, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Powers-Priebe Funeral Home, 315 S. Washington St., Crawfordsville.
