Charles R. Lano

Charles Richard Lano (Charlie), born September 27, 1933, passed away Aug. 18, 2013. Charlie was born in Long Prairie, Minn.
His parents were T.J. Lano (Ted) and Alice (Hamlin). He was a graduate of Long Prairie High School. Charlie then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, stationed in Germany during the Korean War. He returned to Minnesota and purchased a hardware store in Melrose, Minn.
In 1960 he married Donna Plante from Little Falls, Minn. While in Melrose, daughter Alice was born. In 1964 the family moved to Boulder, Colo., where Charlie went to work for Montgomery Wards. While living in Colorado, sons Richard and Bill were born. In 1968 the family moved to Petaluma, Cali. where Charlie went to work for White Front Stores in San Francisco. Next the family moved to Portland, Ore. where Charlie went to work for Coast-to-Coast Stores as district manager. Charlie continued to work for Coast-to-Coast in various cities in California, Oregon and Washington and retired in Indiana as vice president of the Eastern Division.
He is survived by his children Alice (Steve) Clark, Fort Collins, Colo.; Richard and William Lano (Jeri), Crawfordsville, grandchildren Kinsey Lano, Regan Lano, Kyle Lano , Kelly Rose, Ben Switzer, Sara Alfano and greatgrandchildren Brody Rose, Johnathan Rose and Connor Alfano. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Frank and Ted. He was surrounded by his loving family at the end. Friends and family will gather 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21 at St. Bernard's Church in Crawfordsville, followed by mass at 12 p.m. Family assisted by Powers and Priebe.
