Charles William Simpson, age 96 of Crawfordsville, passed away peacefully at home while surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, November 6, 2018. He was born in Fountain County on February 22, 1922 to the late Ray & Lily Grace (Peters) Simpson and grew up and lived in the Browns Valley area.
He graduated from Waveland High School in 1940 and proudly served his country in the United States Army, spending 30 months in the Southwest Pacific Theater during WWII. He farmed all his life and was an insurance salesman for 20 years for Meridian Mutual. He served on the Southmont School Board for 8 years and was a member of the Browns Valley Christian Church all his adult life, serving as superintendent of Sunday School, treasurer, deacon, elder, and teacher for 35 years.
On August 10, 1946 he married the love of his life, Virginia Lee Jackson, who survives. He is also survived by his daughter, Catherine (Ed) Redden of Monte Vista, Colorado; a brother, Don (Elizabeth) Simpson; 3 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; 2 step great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters, Doris (Tom) Jeffries, after being widowed married Fred Bazzani and Ruby (Oscar) Moody; 5 brothers, Bert (Lois) Simpson, Lowell (Betty) Simpson, Forrest (Ethel) Simpson, Austin (Lucille) Simpson, and Lee (Margaret) Simpson, second wife Carolyn.
Visitation will be at Browns Valley Christian Church, 9011 S State Road 47, Crawfordsville on Friday, November 16, 2018 from 11:00am till the time of the memorial service at 12:00pm with Pastor David Finch officiating. Burial of cremains will follow at Indian Creek Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Browns Valley Christian Church Fellowship Hall.
