Charles "Willie" Alford Root Jr, age 77 of Cayuga, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at home while surrounded by his loving family. He was born at home in Cayuga on January 4, 1945 to the late Charles Amos Root and Elsie May (Johnson) Riley.
Willie attended Cayuga High School and proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp. Throughout the years he was a logger, millwright, semi-driver, scrapper, jack of all trades and master of none, and owned Willie's Place Bar in Cayuga. He was an avid gun collector, collected arrow heads, and raised cattle.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Carole Ann (Brown) Root of Cayuga; a son, Andy (Juli) Root of Covington; three grandchildren, Craig (Kadie) Root of Covington, Courtney Root of Arizona, and Cassi Root of Covington; a great-grandchild, Cecilia Root; five siblings, Carl (Alta) Hinkle of North Carolina, Clara (Jerry) Gill of Dana, Mary (Sam) Patton of Lodi, Marvin Root of Minnesota, and Patty Root of Montana; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings, Frances Hinkle, George Hinkle, Frank Hinkle, and Sis Randolph.
Cremation was chosen with a Graveside Service on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Thomas Cemetery on State Rd 71 outside Newport. Sanders Funeral Care of Kingman entrusted with care. Share memories and condolences online at www.sandersfuneralcare.com
