Chauncey Austin Blaydes, 96, of Crawfordsville, died Monday, October 29, 2012 at Lane House Nursing Home in Crawfordsville, IN. He was born July 26, 1916 in Crawfordsville, IN, to Thurman A. and Francis Smith Blaydes. He graduated from New Market High School in 1934. On January 2, 1939 he was married to Maxine Ellen Pyle Blaydes. Maxine preceded him in death on July 27, 2006, after 67 years of marriage.
Chauncey was a farmer in Montgomery County all his life and continued to take an active part in the farming well into his 80's. He was Crow's seed corn dealer for 25 years and director of first the Ladoga Bank and later the Crawfordsville First National Bank. He was a lifetime member of the Parkersburg Christian Church where he served as elder, chairman of the board, trustee, and Sunday School teacher.
Chauncey was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and an infant brother.
He is survived by his son, Keith (Sharon), granddaughter, Shannon Blaydes Peterson (Craig) of Cedar Rapids, IA, grandson Kyle (Erin) Blaydes, and great grandchildren, Hannah, Connor, and Alexis Peterson and Drake and Drew Blaydes.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday, November 1, 2012, at Powers Priebe Funeral Home at 315 South Washington Street, Crawfordsville, IN. Funeral Service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, November 2, 2012, with Pastor Rich Fuller officiating. Burial to follow at Oak Hill Grant Cemetery.
