Mrs Claudine C. Yerkes, age 79, formerly of Wallace, and a current resident of Wellbrooke Health Care of Crawfordsville, IN. passed away at 8:30 pm Thursday at Franciscan Health East, Lafayette, IN.

Claudine was born on August 26, 1937, at Grange Corner, in Parke County, Indiana, the daughter of Claude E. and Effie B. Carnagy Sowers. She graduated from Wallace High School class of 1955, and married Kenneth L. Yerkes on August 18, 1955. They made their home and raised their family in the Wallace community. Claudine was retired from the US Postal Service as the Wallace Postmaster, and was active in several organizations thoughout her life including the Fountain County Historical Society and the Phanuel Ladies Aid Society. She was a member of the Wallace Lutheran Cemetery board and attended the Wallace Christian Church.
Claudine is survived by her three children: Kevin (wife-Nancy) Yerkes of Lakeland, FL.; Keith (wife-Carla) Yerkes of Crawfordsville, IN. and Kathy (husband-Kevin) Knowling of Wallace, IN. She will be greatly missed by her granddaughter Kim (husband-Michael) Huffman and great grandson Grant Huffman of Plainfield, IN; grandson Kyle Yerkes (fiance-Heather Warrick) of FL. and her special niece Patty Moser of Crawfordsville, IN.

There will be a graveside funeral service for Claudine at 2:00 pm Wednesday April 12th at Wallace Lutheran Cemetery with Pastor Ryan Sowers officiating. Her visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 7:00pm on Tuesday April 11th at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, 202 Bratton Rd. Waynetown, IN. Those who wish may make memorial donations to the Wallace Lutheran Cemetery Association. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.
