Clifford Everett

February 12, 1930 — June 1, 2024

Crawfordsville

Clifford Eugene "Gene" Everett, age 94 of Crawfordsville, passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at Wellbrooke of Crawfordsville. He was born February 12, 1930, in Crawfordsville to the late Louis Clifford Everett and Maple Frances (Dykes) Everett.

Gene graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1948 and remained a resident until his death. On September 17, 1950, he married Elizabeth Ann (Anderson) Everett; she preceded him in death in 2008. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Norma (Vernon) Wilson and brother, Robert (Susan) Everett.

He is survived by his "little brother", Paul (Pat) Everett; his four children, Michael (Dollie) Everett, Mark (Nancy Yost) Everett, Amy (Joe) Repasky, and Beth Everett; three grandchildren, Jessica (Matthew) Fidler, Joseph (Jennifer) Repasky, and Heather Kaufman-Everett; and five great-grandchildren.

Gene worked hard to provide for his family. After 20 years at Donnelley's, he left his job to invest in a carpet-cleaning franchise, Duraclean. He later invested in a franchise known as Decorating Den. He sold draperies, wallpaper, and carpet to hundreds of homeowners and businesses throughout the area. Many in the community referred to him as "that nice Mr. Everett." He had found his niche. Gene was a successful businessman. He enjoyed being self-employed and was well-respected in the community for his work ethic.

During his teen years he was involved in the Boy Scouts of America, earning his Eagle Scout badge. Through Boy Scouts, he even served as Crawfordsville Mayor for a Day.

In retirement, he was healthy and loved life. He was an avid reader. He took great pride in his appearance and was a collector of clothes.

He loved the freedom of solo travel and the open road. He owned the car of his dreams and would often take off for weeks at a time. He traveled the United States touring presidential libraries and car and airplane museums. He was a simple man who, at the end of the day, would find a cheap motel for the night and eat tacos and have a beer for dinner. His later pleasure was to sit on his deck listening to the sounds of the music from his youth. He will long be remembered and missed.

Gene was an active member of the First Christian Church, recently recognized as having the longest membership of over 80 years. He served as an elder and participated in the choir. Gene served as Indiana Lt. Governor for Kiwanis, held the elected position as Union Township Trustee for multiple terms, and served Meals on Wheels for many years.
