Corey Joseph Hackl, age 35 of Perrysville, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 22, 1989, in Sauk Prairie, Wisconsin to Brian Joseph Hackl and Geneva "Gen" Thompson.
Corey graduated from Covington High School in 2007. He was a strong Christian and loved his Lord and Savior. He was a member of Cayuga Christian Church and an honorary firefighter for the Perrysville Volunteer Fire Department. Growing up, Corey traveled nationwide in a semi for many years with his Dad, Grandpa and other family, almost visiting every state. Working with his family in the shop left him greasy and messy, but he was so happy he was having guy time. Corey enjoyed going to the fire department meetings and training sessions and the PVFD embraced him as one of their own for a very long time. He enjoyed NASCAR and his favorite driver was Matt Kenseth, because he was from Wisconsin as well. Going to The Brickyard was one of his favorite things as he got to sit across from the pits and watched the chaos with excitement. During Corey's school years he had many wonderful people in his life that helped him accomplish great things. Louise Myers was Corey's aide and good friend through his school time. As Corey became an Uncle, he valued his time with his nephews and was a traditional Uncle of teasing and picking on them while loving them very much. Corey loved camping and taking golf cart rides with his camping dog Daisey Mae at Sugar Mill Lake. He enjoyed going to the DJ's and Bands that played at Sugar Mill and 80's night was his favorite weekend of the year as family came and danced all night with him. He loved hanging out in the Thompson T-shirts shop visiting with customers, family and friends that came in. He would help his Mom sell Tupperware and loved making videos with his family then watching them over and over for hours. He enjoyed fishing videos, country music and daily trips to the Handy Mart. Corey had a tenacity for teasing people and loving life to the fullest with happiness and his Mountain Dew. He would not have gotten as far in life as he did if it wasn't for his mother. Gen has fought for Corey and his healthcare rights since the day he was born.
He is survived by his parents, Brian Hackl of Wisconsin and Gen & Eddie Thompson of Perrysville, Indiana; his siblings, Matthew Rohowetz, Michael (Jenna) Rohowetz, Jennefer (Beau) Thoreson, all of Wisconsin, Ciarra Thompson of Arizona, Tamela Hackl of Cayuga, Kameron Thompson of Illinois, and Danielle Thompson of Perrysville; Godmother, Valerie Howard of Missouri; Godfather, Jerry Kaiser of Wisconsin; nieces and nephews, Brayden Corey Walker, Lakota, Haiden and Hunter Thompson, and Brooklyn and Macie Rohowetz; maternal grandmother, Phyllis Smith of Florida; maternal grandfather, Gary C.
