Mr. Curtis Edward "Curt" Calder, 89, Crawfordsville, passed away Monday,January 22nd, 2018, in the St. Elizabeth East Hospital, Lafayette. He was bornNovember 17th, 1928, in Waynetown, to Clarence and Norma (Davis) Calder. He married Letty Lee Abernathy in Crawfordsville onJuly 6th, 1963. She survives.

Curt grew up on a farm southeast of Waynetown. He graduated in 1947 from Waynetown High School. He worked at various lumberyards; Impex; and then became a Union Carpenter, working on many bridges and schools, including Sommer Elementary School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1947 until 1952. His memberships included the First Baptist Church of Crawfordsville, where he was a member of the Judson Bible Class; the Waynetown American Legion Post, where he had been the Post Commander; and currently a member of the Crawfordsville American Legion Post 72. He was a big IU basketball fan.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter: Tamra (Brad) Long of Crawfordsville; his sons: C. Paul Calder; and James (Jennifer) Calder, both of Crawfordsville. Also surviving is his brother: Robert (Betty) Calder, Crawfordsville; grandchildren: Matt Joyce; Laken (Greg) Wilcox; Iris Long; Gunnar Long; Landon Smith; Jenna Calder; and 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister: Margaret Bell.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 AM Friday,January 26th, at the First Baptist Church, 1905 Labanon Road, Crawfordsville, with Rev. Isaac Zull officiating. Burial will follow in the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Thursday,January 25th, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Military Rites will be conducted onFridayby the Crawfordsville American Legion Honor Guard and the U. S. Navy. Memorials in Curt's name may be made to the First Baptist Church.
