Dale Irwin Cochran
Dale Irwin Cochran, 78 of New Market, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2014, with his family by his side at IU Methodist Hospital.
Mr. Cochran was born on July 2, 1935 to Roscoe and Letha (Coffman) Cochran. He graduated from New Richmond High School. On May 15, 1955, he married the former Patricia Marie Miles, who preceded him in death on December 23, 2002.
Mr. Cochran worked for Montgomery Ward, then worked for L. G. Etters and Sons for 30 years. He was also a self-employed contractor. After retirement, he worked in maintenance for South Montgomery School Corporation. He served 30 years on the New Market Volunteer Fire Department, holding the highest rank of Fire Chief, several of those years. Mr. Cochran was a devoted son, brother, husband , father, grandfather, co-worker, and friend to everyone. He was a very talented wood craftsman and carpenter. He enjoyed working on woodworking projects in his workshop, watching and feeding birds, fishing, as well as spending quality time with his family, and dearly loved spending time and watching his grandchildren grow.
Mr. Cochran is survived by two daughters, Diana (Loyal) Bell and Roxie (Richard) Fugate, both of Crawfordsville; three grandchildren, Megan (Todd) Huckstep of Jamestown, Amy (Aaron) Mattingly of Waynetown, and Clayton Dale Fugate of Crawfordsville; four step-grandchildren , Angie (Chris) Renick, Stacie (Bill) Elliott, Joshua Bell and JJ Bell; as well as two great-grandchildren, Rylan Huckstep and Isabella Mattingly; and three step-great-grandchi ldren, Chand ler and Connor Renick and Wyatt Elliott. Also surviving are sisters, Judy Hamilton, Lafayette, and Marilyn Snelling, Detroit, Michigan; in addition to several nieces and nephews. Mr. Cochran was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife; sister, Mary Sexton; brothers, Richard Cochran, David Cochran, Robert Cochran, and Maurice Cochran.
A celebration of life service will be held at Powers-Priebe Funeral Home, 315 South Washington Street, Crawfordsville, Indiana, on Saturday, January 11, 2014, at I0:00 o'clock a.m., with Pastor Chris Renick officiating. Burial will follow at Indian Creek Cemetery, New Market, Indiana. Visitation for family and friends will be on Friday, January 10, 2014 from 4 to 8 p.m. Memorials can be made to the following:
