David Ronald Grimes

David Ronald Grimes, age 97 of Greentown and formerly of Tangier, entered the kingdom of heaven on Friday, June 4, 2021 at Century Villa Healthcare in Greentown. He was born in Nevada, IA on August 16, 1923 to the late Grant & Elva (Ritter) Grimes of Tangier.

David graduated from Tangier High School in 1941 and proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII. He earned his undergraduate degree in Agricultural and a Master's degree in Education from Purdue University. On December 21, 1946, he married the love of his life, Wanda Lois Simmerman, who survives. David spent 33 years, as principal, teacher, and coach at Tangier, Cates, Ladoga, and Turkey Run Schools. He was also a county extension agent in Sullivan County from 1949-1951, a Board member of Parke County Incorporated, and an elder in the Mt. Hermon Bible Church since 1951. He enjoyed fishing, farming, and his family.

He is survived by his wife of 74 ½ years, Wanda; children, Ron (Marilyn) Grimes of White Lake, Michigan, Rhonda (John) Miller of Upland, IN, Rozy (Craig) Ketchem of Odon, IN, and Rory (Mary) Grimes of Sturtevant, WI; 8 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Don, Dewey, and Keith (killed in Korean War); and a sister, Dorothy.

Visitation will be at Sanders Funeral Care, 203 S 1st St in Kingman on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 from 12:00pm till the time of the funeral service at 2:00pm with Pastor Jon McLain officiating.
