Derrick Martin

Derrick Micheal Martin, 24, Bloomington and formerly of Darlington, passed away in Bloomington on Wednesday, October 1st. He was born November 17, 1989, in Crawfordsville. His parents are Michael D. and Michelle R. (Martin) Smith of Darlington. They survive.

Derrick was a 2008 graduate of North Montgomery High School and attended Indiana University in Bloomington. While at North Montgomery he had been a member of the Swim Team, where he had been and Academic All-American. He had worked at the Creekside Lodge as a Waiter and Cook, and also had worked for Walden Recycling. He was a member of the Darlington Christian Church, and in his free time enjoyed playing basketball and swimming.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother: Austyn Kellison, Darlington; and his sister: Mikiayla Smith, Darlington. Also surviving are his grandparents: David and Teresa Sutherlin, Darlington; Ron and Donna Martin, Brownsburg; Brad an Pat Moore, Marshall; and Dale and Peggy Smith, Plainfield. He was preceded in death by his great grandparents: Lowell R. and Frances A. Martin, and Alva Gilliatt.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM Monday, October 6th, at Powers-Priebe Funeral Home, with Pastor Ron Hatley officiating. Burial will follow in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Darlington. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, October 5th, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Memorials may be made to the funeral home, 315 S. Washington St., Crawfordsville, to assist with funeral expenses
