Diana Sue McCarty

Miss Diana Sue McCarty, 75, Crawfordsville, formerly of Lafayette and Las Vegas, passed away Thursday, June 2nd, at 10:41 PM, in the Ben Hur Nursing Home. She was born July 15th, 1940, in Crawfordsville, to Clarence B. and Winefrid B. Grandstaff (Smith) McCarty.

Diana retired in April 1984 on disability after 19 years with the U.S. Post Office at Lafayette where she was an Information Clerk and Sorter. She was a 1958 Graduate of Crawfordsville High School and a 1973 Graduate of LaSalle University. She was a Veteran of the U. S. Navy (Waves) being stationed in Bainbridge, Maryland and the Great Lakes Illinois Naval Center, as part of the Intelligence Branch, attaining the rank of 3rd Class Petty Officer. Her memberships included the American Legion Post #72; VFW Post 1431 Ladies Auxiliary; AMVETS Post 61, Rockville; Moose Ladies Auxiliary; and formerly a member of the Pleasant View Baptist Church and attended the Crawfordsville First Assembly of God Church; and recently being an active part of the Ben Hur Nursing Home Church Group and its services.

She is survived by nieces and nephews and many local friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers: Jerry and Byron McCarty; 4 Aunts; and a nephew.

A Public Graveside Service is scheduled for 11:30 AM Monday, June 6th, in the Oak Hill North Cemetery, officiated by Pastor Craig Carrell. Friends may call Monday from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Powers-Priebe Funeral Home. Military Graveside rites will be conducted by the Crawfordsville American Legion and VFW Posts Honor Guard and the U. S. Navy.
