Don Allen Yount, 83, New Market, passed away Sunday, February 2, 2014, in Crawfordsville.

Born May 29, 1930, in New Market, Ind., he was the son of Ernest and Laura Yount. He graduated New Market High School and the University of Arizona, with bachelor's degrees in mining, land surveying, and civil engineering.

Don joined the U.S. Air Force after college, where he flew F-94C's in Air Defense Command out of Griffiss Air Force Base in Rome, N.Y. There he met and married Virginia "Ginny" Frances Hay on September 1, 1956, in Alexandria Bay, N.Y.

He worked as a land surveyor in Montgomery County for the majority of his life, operating his own business and serving as the elected County Surveyor. Don was a past-president of the Sugar Creek Kiwanis Club, a member and former elder of New Hope Christian Church, and a member of the 50 Plus Club and Pioneers Club. He was an avid reader, enjoyed horses and equestrian events, and loved watching baseball.

Survivors include Don's children, Scot (Sarah) Yount, Boston, Mass.; Steven (Georgia) Yount, San Antonio, Tex.; Tamsen (Joe) Impicciche, Chesterfield, Mo.; and Kathryn (Sam) Shelton, Crawfordsville, Ind.; 10 grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his sister, Irene Yount.

Visitation will occur from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., Tuesday, February 4, at New Hope Christian Church. Funeral services will begin at 1:30 p.m., also on Tuesday, February 4, at the church. Burial will immediately follow at Oak Hill Grant Avenue Cemetery in Crawfordsville. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Crawfordsville Kiwanis Club, P.O. Box 611, Crawfordsville, IN 47933.
