Donald F. Rendfeld, age 88 of Crawfordsville peacefully passed away at home Monday, March 26, 2018. He was born in Hammond, Indiana on June 30, 1929 to the late William & Evelyn (Mose) Rendfeld.
Don graduated from New Market High School and attended Purdue University. On June 8, 1949 he married the love of his life, Shirley (Britton) Rendfeld, who survives. He proudly served in the Indiana National Guard for 13 years. He was a founding member and president of The Retarded Children’s Association, now ASI (Abilities Services, Inc) in Crawfordsville. He was a maintenance supervisor and retired from Ingress Plastene in Crawfordsville after 47 years. He enjoyed gardening, collecting model trains, and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley of Crawfordsville; one son, Ronald (Connie) Rendfeld of Indianapolis; one daughter, Ellen Mark of Logansport; one sister, Joanne Whitecotten of Crawfordsville; three grandchildren, William & Phillip Rendfeld and Andrew Mark; 3 great grandchildren, Ashlyn, Elliot, and Abigail Mark; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his two cats, Pud and Frisky.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Jill Rendfeld; and son-in-law, Tom Mark.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. The family asked that you do an act of kindness for someone in Don’s memory or memorial donations may be given to the Animal Welfare League of Montgomery County.
