Mrs. Edith McDonald Clouse, 90, Crawfordsville, passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, June 1, at 3:50 AM, after her battle with cancer. She was born March 27, 1924, near Crawfordsville, to Ora and Ossie (Swank) Whitaker. She married Don McDonald on February 11, 1950. He preceded her in death in 1980. She later married Wayne Clouse on June 26, 1993. He also preceded her in death on September 12, 2013.
Edith had worked for 2 1/2 years at R R Donnelleys and later worked for 15 years at Hooks Drugs as a Cashier and Pharmacy Assistant before retiring in 1985. She also worked in the Tuttle Junior High School Cafeteria for several years. She was a 1942 graduate of Hillsboro High School and in May of 1944, she joined the United States Marine Corps, where she attained the rank of Sergeant. While in the Marine Corps in Arlington, Virginia, Edith was one of 140 women Marines to participate in the military funeral procession for President Franklin D. Roosevelt in Washington, DC. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Crawfordsville; a member of the American Legion Post #72; and a 50 year member of the Athens Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her daughter: Alice Dianne (Bryant) Moore, Crawfordsville; her son: David (Lisa) McDonald, Indianapolis; her brother: Bill (Gale) Whitaker, Lebanon; grandchildren: Travis (Christine) Moore, Avon Lake, Ohio; Brandon (Rachel) Moore and Kelly (Sean) Gerold, both of Crawfordsville; and Erin (TJ) McCandless, Lake Holiday; great grandchildren: Carson, Macie, and Gavin Moore; Landon and Graham Gerold; Mackenzie and Hailey Douglas; Hillary McCandless; step great grandchildren: Kaylee and Kyler McCandless. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her son: Dennis; her parents; 3 sisters and 2 brothers.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Wednesday, June 4th, at Powers-Priebe Funeral Home, with Rev. James Ranard officiating. Burial will be in the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery with Military Rites being conducted by the United States Marine Corps and the American Legion and VFW Honor Guard of Crawfordsville.
