Mrs. Edith Williams, age 105, formerly of near Wallace, IN. passed away peacefully to the Lord on April 15th, 2018 at the home of her Granddaughter Kathy Crain, Covington, IN. Edith's story started on October 16, 1912, the oldest child of Earl and Mabel Porter Clore. she was born at Byron, IN., and shared a close relationship with her father, as he lived with Edith all of his life.
Edith graduated from Wallace high School in 1930 and was an Avon sales representative for 25 years. Also, for many years, she served on the Jackson township Election board as well as Treasurer for the Farm Bureau. Edith was a member of the Christian church of Wallace.
Edith lived most of her life in Parke and Fountain Counties. She married Boyd Wilson Williams on august 29, 1931, in Covington, IN. He preceded her in death on May 12, 1974. They spent many hardwarking years together on their farm north of Wallace. At age 14, Edith made pies for her first job, and continued her love of cooking and baking for farmhands and while raising three of her grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening and canning and was a seamstress for most of her life. She loved to mow her own yard and was able to do so until age 101.
Edith will be fondly remembered by her family as a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother as she opened her home up to many members of her family and helped care for all of them. Edith is survived by her daughter Karen (Leonard) Allen; daughter-in-law Sharon Williams; six grandchildren: Cheryl Reynolds, Kathy (Randy) Crain, Scott (Lori) Williams, Joanna Allen, Laurie Largent and Shelia Smith; 16 great grandchildren; 19 geat great grandchildren and 1 great great great grandchild.
In addition to her husband, Edith was preceded in death by her parents, son Richard Williams, grandson Rick Williams, sister Naomi Cetone, and great great grandson Callon Goodwin.
A private family funeral service will be held at Shoemaker Funeral Home, Waynetown, IN. on Thursday April 19th. burial will follow at Centennial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wallace Christian Church, the Wallace Volunteer Fire Dept. or Great Lakes Caring Hospice 3768 Rome Dr., Lafayette, IN. 47905.
