Ellen 'Lucile' Moore

August 24, 1913 - February 23, 2007

Ellen Lucile (Mahorney) Moore, age 103, of Crawfordsville, passed into the presence of the Lord, Thursday, February 23rd, in her home.

Mrs. Moore was born at the Mahorney Family Farm Homestead near Ladoga, to John Clayton and Margaret Ann (Miller) Mahorney. She graduated form Ladoga Schools and was a member of the Ladoga Church of the Brethren. Lucile served many years as the Children's Sunday School Teacher/Co-ordinator and led music during worship services. She married Carl Andrew Moore, August 4th, 1934, at the Crawfordsville First Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Barney Antrobus. After residing several years in Greencastle, they moved to Raccoon, Indiana, establishing Moore's Apple Orchard Fresh-Press Cider Mill and the Cider Sip Restaurant. In the late 1940's, they moved to Crawfordsville, purchasing 16 acres on West Market Street, enlarging their business to include Strawberry and Raspberry patches and an Evergreen Nursery. In the 1970's and 1980's, they lived in West Palm Beach, Florida, on the Louis and Lavina Vaughn Orchid Garden Estate, serving together as orchid social and ground co-ordinators in association with the National Orchid Society of American. They returned to their Crawfordsville home in 1990.

Surviving is their only daughter: Joyce Marie Fry, Crawfordsville; 3 grandchildren: Jeffrey Christopher Fry, Crawfordsville; Janelle Kristina McClure and Julia Elizabeth Fry, both of Westfield, Indiana; 5 great-grandchildren: Joshua, Kyle, and Amanda Fry; Hannah and James McClure; and 1 great-great grandchild: Jackson Fry. Preceding Lucile in death were her husband, Carl, of 78 years of marriage; and her only brother: John Paul Mahorney.

Mrs. Moore was a member of the Crawfordsville Fist Baptist Church, attending the Open Door Sunday School Class; a member of the Edna Martin Missionary Circle; and served as Librarian and Secretary for the Ministries of Music. She was an Auxiliary Member of the Montgomery County Crawfordsville Camp of the Gideons International with her husband, Carl, being its first President.

Lucile enjoyed expressing her personal talents in creative needleworks through crocheting, embroidering, sewing, and tatting with threads and shells. Her many art pieces are treasures of her family. Lucile was the respected and beloved anchor and Christian stronghold for the family.

"Grace was in her steps,

Heaven in her eyes,

and with the fragrances of

dignity and love in every gesture"
