Mr. Ernest Wren "Ernie" Coffing, 81, Crawfordsville, passed away peacefully in his home Saturday, July 1st, 2017, at 11:00 PM.He was born October 19th, 1935 in Crawfordsville, to Edwin and Catherine (Wren) Bayless.He was adopted in 1941 and raised by Carroll S. and Catherine (Wren) Coffing. He first married Sandra Morrow on May 19th, 1956 in Crawfordsville.They divorced.He later married Cheryl (Plank) Davenport on June 6th, 1989, in Nashville, Tennessee. She survives.

Ernie had worked at R.R. Donnelley; was a Manager for the Ponderosa Steakhouse in Springfield, Illinois, and the Kentucky Fried Chicken in Crawfordsville; and retired in 1997 from the Indiana Department of Transportation, where he had worked in the Stockroom. He was a 1954 graduate of Crawfrordsville High School;was a U. S. Navy Veteran; a member of the American Legion Post #72; a past member of the Eagles #1005 and the Moose #6 Lodges.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters: Joni (Bob) Flynn, Crawfordsville; Holley Ann Coffing, Lebanon; Shawn L. Coffing, Lebanon; Heather Coffing, Newtown; his sons: Jeffery C. Coffing and James R. Coffing, both of Crawfordsville; step-daughters: Marcia West, Crawfordsivlile; and Debbie (Gary) Reeves, Pauline, South Carolina.Also surviving is his brother: Carroll E. "Rusty" Coffing, Crawfordsville; his sister: Cathy (Robert) Weliever, Darlington;several grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers: Theodore and William Coffing.

AFuneral Mass is scheduled to be held at Noon on Saturday, July 8th, at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, 1306 E. Main St., Crawfordsville, with Father Christopher Shoklee officiating.Cremation will follow the funeral service with a burial service being held in the Calvary Cemetery at a later date.Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the service time. Military Rites will be conducted in the church by the American Legion Honor Guard and the U.S. Navy.Memorials in Ernie's name may be made to: St. Bernard's Catholic Church; or to: The Wounded Warriors Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675
