Ernest "Ernie" Wayne Newell

Ernest "Ernie" Wayne Newell, age 63 of Indianola, Illinois passed away on Friday, July 26, 2024 at home. He was born in Danville, Illinois on February 21, 1961 to the late Wayne Lee & Freda Mae (Peterson) Newell.

Ernie graduated from North Vermillion High School and proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He was a life-long surveyor and worked on many local projects. He loved fishing, playing horseshoes, hunting with his beloved red bone coon dogs, hunting mushrooms and ginseng, but most of all he loved family gatherings and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his fiancé, Jenene Stricklin; a sister, Donita Newell Ramsey; nieces and nephews, Dave (Kelly) Norman III, Andrew (Amanda) Norman, Trisha Allen, Daphne (Michael) Goldsberry, Travis Whitlow, Matthew Garrett, and Samatha Garrett; his bonus children, Kimberly (James) Bushue, Nicole Gossett, Jessica Clark, and Edward Wieck; 13 bonus grandchildren; and many great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Brenda Newell Norman and Jennifer Newell Whitlow; and brother-in-law, Mike Ramsey.

There will be a Graveside Service at Thomas Cemetery outside of Newport on Friday, August 2, 2024 at 1:00pm with Pastor Kurt Flora officiating and military honors by the Cayuga American Legion. His family will be hosting a Celebration of Life dinner following the graveside service at the Cayuga American Legion.
