Mr. Ernest "Ernie" Waltz Jr., age 78, of Battle Ground, IN passed away at his home on Wednesday morning, May 14th, after a brave fight with Pancreatic Cancer. Ernie was born in Indianapolis, IN. on April 20, 1936 and grew up in Linden graduating from Linden High School. Ernie worked for 54 years as a lineman and supervisor for Tipmont REMC where he was very much loved and respected by all who knew and worked with him. He received the Ernie Shear award which is and Indiana state wide safety award and was recently inducted into the International Hall of Fame and Linemen's Museum in Shelby, North Carolina.
Ernie married Doris Cope on July 26th, 1960 and together they enjoyed participating in country line dance clubs such as the Rowdy wranglers and the Lafayette Brandeds. He was an honorary member of the Desperadoes Band and he loved NASCAR, IU Basketball and traveling on cruises and around the United States.
Ernie is survived by his wife Doris of Battle Ground and a close loving family that includes six children and spouses: Larry and Deb Waltz of Morristown, IN.; Dale and Rita Waltz of Linden, IN.; Greg and Amanda Waltz of Lafayette, IN. Gary and Tab Waltz of Battle Ground, IN. Glen and Crystal Waltz of Lafayette, IN. and Katherine and Joe Kortz of Morristown, IN. they were blessed with 17 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Ernie is also survived by brother, don and Judy Waltz of New Richmond, IN. and Allen and Judy waltz of Indian Harbor Beach, FL. and his sister Gladys and Mac McCay of Noblesville, IN.
Ernie was preceded in death by his parents Ralph Waltz Sr, and Jeanette Mason Waltz, his brother Ralph Waltz Jr.; sisters Elsie Bedrick and Naomi Halsey and his infant daughter Evelyn Renee Waltz.
It was Ernie's desire to have cremation and then to scatter his ashes. His family invites those who wish to attend the scattering to join them at 2:00pm Sunday, May 18th at their home at 125 N. Railroad St., Battle Ground, IN., for the ceremony and celebration of his life by Chaplin Andrea Martin. the family requests that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O.
