Mr. Erval Leon Tansel, 94, Crawfordsville, passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, April 22nd, 2017, at 12:50 PM in the Wellbrooke of Crawfordsville. He was born on August 13th, 1922, in Scotland, Illinois, to Harold and Lydia Myrtle (Phipps) Tansell. He married Ruth D. Allen in Crawfordsville on November 30th, 1946. She preceded him in death on June 12th, 2013.
Erval retired in 1983 after 33 years at Alcoa of Lafayette. He also had worked for Ewolts Cabinets. He was a 1942 graduate of Advance High School; and was a U.S.Navy WW II Veteran, having served in the European and Pacific Theaters. His memberships included American Legion Post #72, Crawfordsville; the NRA; the Dana, Indiana, Baptist Church; and in his free time he enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his brother: Merlin (Patricia) Tansell, Shelbyville. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his sisters: Elnora Coons; Naomi Partner; Donna Gott; his brothers: Donald and Jimmy Tansell; and his parents.
Cremation was chosen with a Public Graveside Service being heldat 1:00 PM on Tuesday, May 2nd, at the Wolf Creek Church Cemetery, near Wallace (Highway 234 W. and County Road 600 E.), with Rev. Dorman Winger officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post #72 Honor Guard and the U.S. Navy. Memorials in Erval's may be made to you favorite charity.
