Mrs. Ethel M. Sandusky, 86, Crawfordsville, passed away Sunday, July 1, at 9:12 AM at the St. Elizabeth Franciscan Crawfordsville Hospital. She was born January 3, 1926, in Montgomery County, to Orville A. and Hattie B. (Gibson) Higgins. She married James C. Sandusky September 7, 1945, in Crawfordsville. He preceded her in death in 1980.
Mrs. Sandusky had been a homemaker; farmed with her husband; worked at the Apple Grove Restaurant; and retired from Ingress Plastenes after 27 years. She was a 1944 Graduate of Ladoga High School and attended the Parkersburg and New Market Christian Churches. After retirement she worked at the Tim Priebe Worm Farm; baby sat her great grand kids; enjoyed her garden; and loved to read. In her younger days she enjoyed Tractor Pulls, becoming the first woman to drive large tractors at the Clay City Tractor Pull.
She is survived by her daughters: Ruthann (Maurice) Stierwalt; Sandy (Tom) Caldwell; and Barb (Jim) Stephens, all of Crawfordsville. Also surviving is her brother: Ed (Cherie) Higgins, Lake Holiday; her sister: Esther Grayson, Belle View, Florida; 5 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; 2 sons: Jay T. in 1971, and Fred in 1995; 2 brothers: Bob and Jim Higgins; and 2 sisters: Inez Barker and Margaret Baker.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 3, at 2:00 PM, at Powers-Priebe Funeral Home, 315 S. Washington St., Crawfordsville, with Rev. George Dosher officiating.
