Fred Crooks, 90, of Crawfordsville, IN, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Saturday, March 1, 2014. He passed peacefully in his sleep at Hickory Creek at Sunset in Greencastle, where he resided for the past four years. Fred was born to a happy family on September 8, 1923 near Parkesville, IN. The son of Fred S. Crooks and Sally Edith Swaim Crooks, Fred was one of 10 children. He is survived by his son David K. Smith and wife Georgetta of New Market, a daughter Judith McDonald and husband Bob of Darlington, five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Sylvia Crooks Linn, brothers Dale and Bill Crooks, niece Maxine Williamson and several other nieces and nephews. Fred graduated from Greene Township School in 1941, and then went on to work until retirement as a meat cutter.

Fred met the love of his life, Margaret Smith, whom he married on April 11, 1969. She preceded him in death. He loved to travel, spend time with family, and meet new people, and could always be found at the State Fair horse shows. He was a Mason and a 32nd past Master of Waveland Lodge, and volunteered as a Red Coat at St. Clare Hospital in Crawfordsville. He was also past Chairman of the Board for Whitesville Christian Church.

Fred will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. In lieu of cards and flowers, donations can be made to the Whitesville Christian Church.

Viewing will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM on Thursday, March 6 at Whitesville Christian Church, 3603 S. Ladoga Rd., with Masonic services to be held at 11:30 AM and the funeral services immediately following, with Rev. Michael Whitacre officiating. Burial will be in the Ladoga Cemetery.
