Mr. Gareld E. Livengood, age 98, of Crawfordsville, In. and formerly of Wallace, In. joined his loved ones in heaven on Saturday morning October 26th while residing at Wellbrooke of Crawfordsville. Gareld was born on September 19, 1921 at Crawfordsville the son of Oscar and Zora Iva (nee Conner) Livengood. He attended grade school at Mt. Zion School and graduated from Wallace High School in 1939. Gareld served in the Army Air Corp. during WWII in the Central Pacific region of China, India Burma from October 1942 to December 1945 and was discharged with the rank of Staff Sargent. The following year he married Frances M. Wheeler on October 5, 1946 and they setup their home and farmed north of Wallace, IN. They were a team of two working in the fields and with livestock along side his brother Randel and sister in law Dorothy Livengood until Gareld and Frances retired to Crawfordsville. Frances preceded him in death on January 8, 2015.
Gareld is survived by a large and loving family that he gained when he married Frances including brothers in law, Bob Wheeler of Browns Valley, Jack Wheeler of Greencastle, Rex Sutherlin of Rockville and Jim West of Crawfordsville. Also his sisters in law Jean Cornett of California, Darleen Brooks, Jane (husband Bob) Starnes and Sandi (husband Jim) Byers all of Crawfordsville, Emily Wheeler of North Carolina and Nancy Wheeler of Pennsylvania. He also leaves an abundance of nieces and nephews from his and his wife's families.
Gareld was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Arnold "Bill" and Randel Livengood, sisters in law Harriet and Dorothy Livengood, father in law and mother in law: Robert E. & Maude Wheeler, brothers in law Tom, Bill & Jim Wheeler, Bud Brooks and Pete Cornett and his sisters in law: Maxine Wheeler, Sue Sutherlin, Anna Mae Wheeler and June West, 2 nephews and one niece.
Funeral services with military honors for Gareld will be held 2:00pm Wednesday October 30th at Shoemaker Funeral Home, 202 Bratton Rd., Waynetown, IN. and officiated by Pastor Steve Whicker. Burial will follow in the Wallace Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 12 noon until the services at 2:00pm. Shoemaker Funeral Home is honored to assist in these services.
