Mr. Garry Eugene Layne, 63, Crawfordsville, passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, September 19th, at 6:00 AM. He was born May 6th, 1952, in Crawfordsville, to Leland Eugene and Minnie (Simmons) Layne. He married Lucinda (Cindy) Bannister Hall in 1977. She survives.
Garry had worked for Coast to Coast in Crawfordsville for 10 years and later worked for David Joseph Steel Company as a Crane Operator for 10 years. He was a 1970 graduate of New Market High School; was a Veteran of the U. S. Navy; was a member of the New Market Christian Church; and a Hog Member of Harley-Davidson. In his free time, he enjoyed riding his Harley and enjoyed deer hunting.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons: Shanon (Tara) Layne, Goshen; Shane Layne, Crawfordsville; step-children: Tina (Jon) Runyan, Lafayette; and Toby Hall, Terre Haute. Also surviving are sisters: Pat Spencer, New Market; Carolyn (Rick) Laster, Frankfort; his aunt: Linda (Dave) Myers, New Market; brothers and sisters-in-law: Jack (Paula) Bannister, Indianapolis; Lorna Chase-Broedel Bannister, Indianapolis; Ed (Anita) Bannister, Crawfordsville; Raymond (Linda) Bannister, Monticello; several nieces and nephews, especially his niece, Shon (Scott) French, New Market, who stayed and took care of him until the end; and grandchildren: Kelsey, Isaiah, Jacob, Evan, and Caleb. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents: Alonzo and Priscilla Opal Layne; mother and father-in-law: Nancy and Leroy Bannister; brother-in-law: John Bannister.
Cremation was chosen with Visitation from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM on Tuesday, September 22, at Powers-Priebe Funeral Home. Military Rites will be conducted at 5:00 PM by the U.S. Navy and the Crawfordsville American Legion and VFW Posts Honor Guard.
