Gene J. Thompson, age 86, of Crawfordsville passed away peacefully at home at 9:05am on Saturday, October 8, 2016. He was born on March 18, 1930 in Zionsville to the late Perl Ernest & Katie Ann (Wallace) Thompson.

Gene graduated from Dover High School and proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. On March 23, 1957 he married the love of his life, Charmaine Elise Winslow, who preceded him in death on February 3, 2013. He retired from RR Donnelley in 1992 after 43 years in Department CMP, worked at Turkey Run and View Golf Course, worked at the Indianapolis Speedway for the Indy 500 and the Brickyard 400, was a 63-year member of the Byron Cox American Legion Post #72, and enjoyed fishing, golfing, and IU basketball.

He is survived by his son, Phil (Gina) Thompson, of Crawfordsville; a daughter, Jena (Ken) Palmby of Aurora, IL; grandchildren, Seth & Connor Palmby, Clayton (Kelly), Arin (Dianne), Bryce & Adrianne (John Muller) Thompson, John & Scott Jones, and Samantha Shepherd; and great-grandchildren, Meadow Thompson, Chloe & Clayton Jones and Sawyer Muller.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Charmaine; sister, Geneva Riddle; three brothers, Gordon L., Gerald P., and Garland S. Thompson.

Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, October 13th at 11:00am at Powers-Priebe Funeral Home with Rev. Dorman Winger officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill North Cemetery with military rites by Crawfordsville American Legion and the United States Air Force. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, October 12th, from 5:00pm until 8:00pm. Memorial donations may be given to the Animal Welfare League of Montgomery County, 1104 Big Four Arch Rd.
