Mrs. Gladys Louise Sowers, age 93, formerly of Wallace, IN. passed away at Cumberland Pointe Nursing Home, West Lafayette, In. on Thursday November 6th, 2014.
Gladys was born June 3, 1921 in Parke County Indiana the daughter of Milford and Ida (nee: Algood) Newnum. She graduated from Wallace High School, was a member of the Wallace Christian Church, Wallace Ladies aid Society and served as the girls 4H leader in Jackson Township for several years.
Gladys married Eugene "Gene" Sowers on November 11, 1939 and he preceded her in death on June 1, 2003. Survivors include her sons: Edward and Margaret Sowers of Plainfield, In.; James and Kristina Sowers of Crawfordsville, In. daughters; Carolyn and Charles Schlehuser of West Lafayette, In. and Christine and Gary Simmons of Columbus, IN. 4 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by 1 brother and 5 sisters and 1 grandson.
Funeral services for Gladys wwill be held at 2:00pm Wednesday November 12th at the Shoemaker Funeral Home with Rev. John Dittmer officiating. Burial will follow in Phanuel Lutheran Cemetery at Wallace. In. The family will receive guests from 5:00pm to 8:00pm on Tuesday at the funeral home. Those who wish may make memorial donations to either the Wallace Christian Church or the Phanuel Lutheran Cemetery.
