Hugh Hart

Hugh LaVerne "Vern" Hart, 85, Crawfordsville, passed away Monday evening at 9:52 PM at the Hickory Creek of Crawfordsville Healthcare. He was born December 31, 1925 at Lapland, Indiana, to William Newton and Julia Frances (Mangus) Hart. He married Wilma J. Rice on August 14, 1956 in Dana, Indiana. She survives.

Mr. Hart retired in 1990 after 25 years at Mid States Steel and Wire, Crawfordsville, where he had been a fork lift driver. He had also farmed; worked at the New Market Lumber Yard; and had a milk route for Kraft Food Co., in Marshall, Indiana. He was a member of the Freedom Baptist Church and attended Parkersburg School. He enjoyed mowing his yard; was a big IU fan; and spending time with his grandkids, great grandkids, and great great grandkids.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter; Judith Ann Byers of Rockville, Indiana. He is also survived by 1 sister; Irene Hester, Lapland: 3 grandchildren; Kevin Byers and Andy (Kristy) Byers, both of Crawfordsville, and Buffy (Edward) Bunch, Indianapolis: 4 great grandchildren; William and Brittany Byers, both of Crawfordsville, Tonya (Brian) Posthauer, Ladoga, and Alex Bunch, Indianapolis: 2 great great grandchildren; Madisyn and Chloe Posthauer, both of Ladoga. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mildred Crayon; son-in-law, Bill Byers; and 2 1/2 brothers.

Funeral Services will be Friday, May 6, at 11:00 AM at the Powers-Priebe Funeral Home, 315 S. Washington St., Crawfordsville. Burial will be at the Oak Hill South Cemetery, Crawfordsville.
