Ira Lester Carr Jr

Mr. Ira Lester Carr, Jr., 91, Crawfordsville, passed away Saturday, March 5th, at 11:19 AM in the I.U. Arnett Hospital, Lafayette. He was born February 1st, 1925, in Darlington, to Ira L.Sr., and Mabel Flo (Long) Carr. He married Helen Ernestine "Ernie" Hix. She preceded him in death on June 14th, 2009.

Mr. Carr retired in 1988 after 41 years at R. R. Donnelleys, where he was an Assistant Pressman on the Readers Digest Line. He was a 1943 graduate of Linden High School; was a WW II U. S. Navy Veteran; was a member of the Donnelley Club; and in his free time enjoyed auctions, NASCAR, I.U. Basketball, and fishing.

He is survived by his children: Denise Carr, Monticello; Jeanine Carr, Crawfordsville; Tish Simmons, Crawfordsville; Michael (Peggy) Carr, New Ross; brother: James Carr, Lafayette; grandchildren: Chris (Crystal) Carr; Craig (Trinaty) Carr; Caitlin; Brandon Simmons; Cameron Gunderman; Barbara Young; great-grandchild: Logan Carr. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his brother: Leroy; sister: Helen Gutherie; and his parents.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 9th, at Powers-Priebe Funeral Home, with Pastor Rich Stadler officiating. Burial will follow in the Mace Community Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 8th, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Military Rites will be conducted prior to the funeral on Wednesday by the Crawfordsville VFW and American Legion Posts Honor Guard and the U. S. Navy.
