Jackie Shelton

Mr. Jackie Eugene "Jack" Shelton, 88, Crawfordsville, passed away Monday, November 12, at 10:00 AM, in I. U. Arnett Hospital, Lafayette, Indiana. He was born February 20, 1924, in Bethany, Illinois, to George A. and Bertha C. (Poisel) Shelton. He married Gloria J. Mechling February 1, 1947, in Champaign, Illinois. She survives.

Mr. Shelton retired from Elston Bank & Trust, Crawfordsville, in 1991. He had previously worked for Agri-Business in Illinois, and after retirement worked part-time for R.R.Donnelley & Son, Crawfordsville. He was a 1941 graduate of Lovington, Illinois, High School; and his memberships included: Agri-Banking and The Bank Administration Institute; Crawfordsville Lions Club, where he was the President in 1986; American Legion Club for 64 years; Woodland Heights Christian Church; and was a U.S. Marine Corps WW II Veteran having served from 1943 until 1946, in Guam and Saipan. In his free time he enjoyed traveling and sports.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter: Rebecca A. Aldridge, Rantoul, Illinois; his son: Terry E. (Diane) Shelton, Elkhart, Indiana; his brother: Robert W. Shelton, Chicago; grandchildren: Brian J. (Lisa) Shelton; Kimberly Crawford; and Jeffrey Aldridge; great grandchildren: Zachary Shelton and Liam Crawford. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: George E. and Bill M. Shelton; brother-in-law: Jack R. "Robert" Mechling; sister-in-law: Roberta Helen Crews.

Honoring Jack's wishes cremation was chosen with a Graveside service to be held Friday, November 16 at 2:00 PM (Illinois time) in the Fairlawn Cemetery, Decatur, Illinois, with Rev. Steve Wilke officiating. There will not be any public visitation. Military Rties will be conducted at the graveside service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to: I.U.
