James "Al" Allen Cunningham, 72, of Marshfield MO, passed away on September 3, 2024 in Crawfordsville. He was born on September 23, 1951 in Elkland, MO to Charles Cunningham and Evelyn (Hoover) Close.
Al graduated Perryton High School in Texas, Class of 1970. He served in the United States Navy from 1972 to 1976. He was Interior Communications Electrician Second Class aboard the amphibious cargo ship USS El Paso. Al retired from Turkey Run State Park where he worked in the maintenance and waste water departments. He was a proud member of the American Legion Post 639 in Springfield, MO. Al enjoyed traveling, carpentry and being outdoors, especially fishing.
Al loved visiting New Mexico around his birthday, the time of year the aspen are turning gold and the elk are bugling.
On a recent fishing trip there with Skylyr, she managed to catch the biggest rainbow trout he'd ever seen, on her very first cast! He never got over the shock of her rookie luck and proudly shared that story every chance he got.
He is survived by his treasured daughters, Skylyr (Chenelle) Cunningham and Natalie (Jose) Gomez; 4 cherished grandchildren, Waylon, Layla, McCoy, and Aurora; beloved sister, Jacqueline Naylor. He will be greatly missed by his nieces, nephews and extended family.
Al is predeceased by his parents and sister, Julianne Ellis.
