James L. Steele

James Lowell Steele, age 59, of Crawfordsville, passed away on Monday, November 15, 2021 at Franciscan Health Crawfordsville. He was the son of Robert Jack and MaryAnn Steele, which he now joined in heaven.

He was happily married to Leesa E. Steele on November 29, 2014. He was a member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Crawfordsville and an active member of The Sons of the American Legion Post 72 in Crawfordsville, as well as a former member of the Crawfordsville Moose Lodge. He worked as a Senior Loss Control Representative for Penn Millers and Grain Dealers Mutual Insurance, where he retired. He enjoyed being with friends and family, drinking beer, watching the Indianapolis Colts and Notre Dame, and playing Chess.

James was survived by his wife, Leesa; two sons, Andy (Mary Conley) McVay and Nik (Harmony) Jensen both of Crawfordsville; a brother, Robert J. Steele II of Huntsville, Alabama; two sisters, Marjorie (Max) Mitchell of Crawfordsville, Eva (Jerry) Silver of Williamsport; a grandson, Brantley; a brother in law, James Joseph II; six nephews, Jediah (Desire) Steele, JD Joseph, Jordan (Mirah) Silver, Jason (Ashley) Silver, Max Alexander Mitchell, and Joseph Silver, three nieces Heather (Daniel) Palmer, Veronica (Nick) Weston, and Samantha (Cass) Alward; and several great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister-in-law, Jae Steele.

There will be a Memorial Service at Holy Cross Lutheran Church at 5:00 pm on Thursday, November 18, 2021. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN, 38105, Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 1414 Wabash Ave, Crawfordsville, Indiana 47933, or the Animal Welfare League, 1104 Big Four Arch Road, Crawfordsville, Indiana 47933.
