James Racho Strickland, age 92, of Covington and formerly of Flora, IL passed away peacefully at 7:05am on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at the Waters of Covington Nursing Home. He was born in Frisco OK on March 19, 1923 to the late Walter Winship and Myrtle Belle (Voyles) Strickland.
James graduated from Flora High School in IL where he met Marion K. Miller whom he married on August 15, 1942 in St. Charles, MO. She preceded him in death on May 7, 2014. He was an engineer in the United States Army and served during World War II from 1943-1945. He worked in the oil fields and retired as a welder at Hyster Company. He and Marion attended the First Church of Nazarene in Danville, IL for several years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and enjoyed making jewelry, polishing rocks, and loved to fish.
He is survived by a son, James (Joy) Strickland of Covington; a daughter, Saundra (Dale) Castleberry of Flora, IL; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marion, and 6 siblings.
Cremation was chosen with a memorial service in Flora, IL at a later date with military rites. Memorial donations may be given to the Wounded Warriors Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
