James Wright

Mr. James R. "Jim" Wright, 76, of Crawfordsville, passed away peacefully at 5:30 PM on September 23rd, in the Wellbrooke of Crawfordsville, with his family by his side. Jim was born December 1, 1937, in Hamilton County, Indiana, to Russell Henry and Mary Catherine (Virtue) Wright. He married his wife of 56 years, Jannis Iolene Ottinger, on May 4th, 1958, in Sheridan. She survives.

Jim was in the Grocery Business for 50 years, starting out at Chews Grocery & Ranch Supermarkets until he went into business for himself in 1979. Jim was the owner and operator of Shopwright Supermarket of Crawfordsville and co-owner of Kartimi Enterprises, doing business as Shopwright Supermarket and US Express both in Frankfort, before retiring in 2000. He was a member of the First Methodist Church of Sheridan; a member of the Masonic Lodge #101, Greenfield; and a member of the Crawfordsville Commandery #25, Knights Templar. Jim enjoyed racing of all kinds and was very proud of his 1934 Dodge . As a young man, he was an active go-kart racer. He also enjoyed collecting Coca Cola memorabilia, NFL football, and spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters: Karla Sue (Brad) House, Williamsport; and Myra Ann (Wade) Galloway, Crawfordsville. Also surviving is his brother: Delbert L (Pamela) Wright; 4 grandsons: Kyle (Laura) Haslam, Kelby Haslam, Lucas Galloway, Jordan Galloway; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister; and a sister: Claretta Jane Chadwell.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM Saturday, September 27th, at Powers-Priebe Funeral Home, with Pastor James Renn officiating. Burial will follow in the Crown View Cemetery, Sheridan. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, September 26th, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM, with Masonic Services being held at 8:00 PM.
