Jane Friend

Mrs. Jane D. Friend, 91, Crawfordsville, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, February 8, in the John C. Lincoln Deer Valley Hospital, Phoenix, Arizona. She was born May 19, 1920, in New Richmond, Indiana, to Bert and Elsie (Bennett) Dewey. She married Lowell E. Friend, January 25, 1941, in Garfield, Indiana. He preceded her in death July 30, 2006.

Mrs. Friend had been the Cafeteria Manager for Southmont Schools for 25 years; had owned with her husband the Friends Lamp Shop in New Market for 22 years; and had worked earlier in her life at F.W. Woolworth and A&P Grocery. She was a member of the New Market Christian Church; the SOS Sewing Club; Chi Omega Sorority; the American Legion Auxiliary; and was a 1938 graduate of Waynetown High School.

She is survived by her children: Sallly (Jim) Shelton, Indianapolis; and David (Cathy) Friend, Denver, Colorado. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and her brother: Robert L. Dewey.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, February 14, at Powers-Priebe Funeral Home, 315 S. Washington St., Crawfordsville, with Revs. Mike Whitacre and Mike Parks officiating. Burial will be at the Oak Hill Grant Avenue Cemetery, Crawfordsville. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Monday, February 13.
