Janice Joy Mongold

July 16, 1938 — May 28, 2018

Janice Joy (Samuelson) Mongold, age 79 of Crawfordsville passed away on Monday, May 28, 2018 at Hickory Creek of Crawfordsville. She was born in Portage, Indiana on July 16, 1938 to the late George & Ethyl (Yant) Samuelson.

Janice graduated from Valparaiso High School in 1956. She then graduated from Purdue University where she met and married David Stearns, of Rising Sun Indiana. David preceded her in death on November 5, 1998. She later remarried Donald Mongold, who also preceded her in death. Janice was a caseworker for the Montgomery County Welfare Department. She and her husband David also ran the Davis House Bed and Breakfast in Crawfordsville.

She greatly enjoyed her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church. Janice had been active in the church, book club, and League of Women Voters. She had a great love of history, art, gardening, reading and nature. She was a very creative and artistic person and had inherited her mother’s talent for painting.

She is survived by her three children, Glenn Stearns of Las Vegas, Nevada, Beverly Everman of Avon, Connecticut and Cheryl Bennett of Crawfordsville; five grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, David Stearns and Donald Mongold; three brothers and granddaughter Dawn Stearns.

A memorial service is planned for 1:30 PM Saturday June 9, 2018 at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 110 S Blair Street, Crawfordsville with Rev. Judy Early officiating. Sanders Priebe Funeral Care entrusted with care. Share memories and condolences online at www.sandersfuneralcare.com
